Come spend the week or any combination of days on our farm having fun in the Spring time outdoors and creating ART of many kinds! Louise Omoto Kessel and Holmes Graybeal will be leading this camp together with some fabulous guest artists scheduled by the day! Counselors will be scheduled as enrollment requires to keep staff-child ratios low and good attention for your children maximized! Louise will be offering a range of art activities each day in a free-to-choose "Art Party" format. Cooperative Games, Canoeing on the Pond, Frisbee Golf, Nature Exploration will also be in the mix!
Guest Artists CONFIRMED are:
• Beverly Botsford (Wednesday)- Beverly is a world
class percussionist and a fantastic teacher as well. She will get us all making
instruments, playing as ensemble, banging on things and "in the groove"!;
• Erick Davis (Thursday)- Erick is a visual artist
who's own work includes tile and stone mosaics, large scale murals, paintings
and drawings. Erick has done beautiful work at our farm in the past helping
children make art from natural materials and helping them with an assortment
of other visual art experiences.
• Monday, Tuesday and Friday, Louise and Holmes will
lead art activities, play, nature explorations, pond excursions, etc. With
the help of a counselor or two if enrollment requires.

Camp Hours: 9am - 2pm
This fabulous Spring day camp for the youngest campers and their parents
(or other special adult) will involve partying with art all week long! Louise
will be setting out a spectacular array of visual art explorations each day
and will be joined by creative movement, nature explorers, and music artists
for an all around fun time. In Louise's art class come ready to finger paint;
mix together colorful slime; play in shaving cream; draw with pastels, colored
chalk, and other medium; learn to embroider on burlap or sew your own stuffed
animal; make your own toys, and so much more! When you meet our guest artists
bring your voices and bodies to the tumbling, dancing, singing chorus of activity!
Much of the day will be for adults and children to share in creating together.
Each afternoon we will offer an hour long workshop with our guest artists
that will be specifically for the creative exploration and rejuvenation of
the adults while other artists and camp counselors work with the children.
Singing Games provide a lively morning circle and our day ends with a closing
circle and story told by Louise.

Candace Waken leads our once-a-month Felting Workshop for Adults. Come enjoy a day in good company and fine creative spirit! Felting is the ancient art of turning wool into a beautiful sturdy material that can range from totally functional to highly decorative (or a wonderful combination of both!). By adding soap, warm water, and friction to wool of many colors participants can create things as varied as hats, beads, figures, scarves, pouches, slippers, portraits, balls, geodes, puppets, and toys. The process is satisfying, the results are beautiful!
Candace Waken makes stunningly beautiful felted objects herself and is a gifted teacher of the highest order! You can count on a studio atmosphere that is supportive and empowering; Candace guides with the confidence and intelligence her years of experience provide and delights in the beauty of the things her students create. She has taught handwork at the Emerson Waldorf School, led felting camps at the Friends School Summer Camps and of course at our own Clapping Hands Farm Fiber Arts Camp. Now by popular demand we offer our once-a-month Felting Workshop for Adults! Although the basic principals are readily grasped by the children at our summer camps, I can give personal testimony – the materials and possibilities have ENDLESS fascination for adults.
Each one day workshop will lay out the basic principals of creating a range
of felted objects –flat pieces, balls, cords, three dimensional sculpted
pieces, etc. Each person will have the freedom to design and craft an object
(or objects) of their choice with Candace's support. I admire Candace's ability
to lead workshops where everyone in the studio is working on something different
and each person experiences success!
No previous experience is required! Experienced felters will also benefit
from this workshop where lovely materials will be provided in abundance and
a range techniques will be taught.

April 21, Monday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. A homeschool enrichment day for ages 6 and up with their parents. Cost $20 per child age 6 and up/parents free. Bring your own lunch.
Beverly Bostford is a world class percussionist who tours internationally with jazz singer Nneena Freelon. She was also a founding member of Chuck Davis' African American Dance Ensemble in it's early days in NC. Along with being an outstanding musician in her own right, I have never seen anyone cause a group of NON-musicians sound so good in such a short period of time! She is an excellent workshop leader!
Come spend a day at our farm in Beverly's company! There will be a percussion workshop in the morning, an instrument making activity, lunch and free time, followed by another percussion workshop in the afternoon.
Our setting in Pittsboro is secluded and lovely, with a large camp shelter
where we can work rain or shine.
Younger siblings are welcome to tag along, but parents will be 100% responsible
for their care, including ensuring that the workshop space stays focused.
(There will be plenty of room to play away from the workshop space if needed!)
