fall 2024 programs

overview

We are very excited to roll out some fun workshops, camp days and programs —ALL IN-PERSON— for adults and young people this winter and spring!

Below are detailed descriptions of each program, including fees and how to register.

HOMESCHOOL ART CAMP meets on Thursdays Fall-Winter-Spring and has a separate page and registration!

2024 covid protocols

Our in-person programs and workshops in 2024 will be mask and distance optional for most people. We will continue to actively support people who choose to mask and distance. We will run a survey for symptoms and exposures the weekend before each camp, and people who have tested positive or who have had known exposures will have guidelines they need to follow.  Please read our COVID response page for all the details.

scholarships

We have a “no one turned away” scholarship policy at Clapping Hands Farm. We do not want money to be an obstacle to attending camp.

If you would like to contribute to our scholarship program, please see our donate page. There are also places on your camp registration form to let us know if you need a scholarship or if you want to make a donation.

Art Party is a joyous family camp for parents and young children to enjoy together! Our Art Party staff loves to create big fun for families and considers children AND parents CAMPERS; our goal is to create a very special day for BOTH of you. Each day the Clapping Hands team sets out a spectacular array of visual art explorations, shares music and dance experiences, and brings their enthusiastic,  big hearted, playful selves to the camp day.

At our ART PARTY, come ready to: finger paint; make colorful slime; play in shaving cream; draw with pastels, colored chalk, and other mediums; learn to embroider on burlap or sew your own stuffed animal; make toys that fly and spin; and so much more! After our Art Party morning, we’ll enjoy lunch together (bring a picnic lunch for your family.) After lunch our staff will lead a sing-a-long or movement exploration. During “anything goes” in the afternoon we might build with a collection of 100 boxes, play games, or do more art. Singing games provide a lively morning circle and our day ends with a closing circle and a story told by Louise. It’s a good time for everyone! Picture doing a dozen fun things with your child/ren with out having to set it up or clean it up!

(NOTE: During our summer art party camp we offer parent workshop each afternoon while counselors have fun with kids. We’re not promising a parent workshop for the Fall Art Party, I’m not sure we will have enough staff to pull that off!)

If you have a child/ren who are OLDER than 8, and want them to come to Art Party camp too, please contact us. They may be able to come as a camper, or they can apply to be a Junior Counselor.
Have a YOUNGER sibling that’s not two yet? They are welcome to come too! See details on our registration page.

We will be boots on and hands on with our learning! We will make/learn about:  tinctures and lotions; the benefits of fermented foods for health and probiotic beverages such as water kefir and kombucha (with scoby’s or water kefir grains for you to take home); begin a wellness journal; learn how to make and use castor oil compresses; plant id and foraging; a plant walk will be part of our day, weather permitting. If you’ve come to Angela’s workshops previously, we’re planning new activities and topics! Come again!

Angela’s  approach is that of a self taught and dedicated life long learner. Her goal is to inspire your curiosity, and to invite you to pay attention to your body, do your own research, trust your common sense, develop your common knowledge, and feel empowered as a learner and a healer.  Angela is passionate, warm, caring, and enthusiastic about these topics!

We hope joining a community of people who share these interests will provide a supportive and joyful context for deepening your relationship to your body and enhancing your personal wellness journey.

She is a self taught enthusiast and life long learner in the realms of herbalism, home remedies, wild plants, gardening, and foods that support healing. If you dream of creating handmade things for gifting and celebrating and want to craft for hours with the inspiration of other makers in a studio full of ideas and supplies . . . this workshop is for you!
If you always want to make lots of handmade gifts, cards, ornaments etc. and never start early enough! .  . . this workshop is for you!
If you want to create for birthdays, kwanzaa, valentines day, galentines day, solstice, christmas, hanukkah, thanksgiving, friendsgiving, an anniversary, or really ANY cultural holiday or personal expression of appreciation for someone or something. . . This workshop is for you!
If you’ve always wanted to help your children make handmade gifts, and want more support around that. . . this workshop is for you!

Louise Omoto Kessel, the leader for this workshop, LOVES making stuff. She has spent decades making handmade gifts, cards, wrapping paper, and leading a toy making camp every summer. She is someone who loves learning a new thing, and has been following those whims for so long that she has now dabbled somewhat luxuriantly in . . . book making, crochet, sock toys, puppet making, printmaking, felting, game building, toy making, bead sewing, collage, sashiko embroidery, origami, and lots more!

Whether you want to make a very special gift for one special person or come up with a project that you can make lots of to spread the joy far and wide–- Louise has ideas for you! She will select projects and skills to teach and share from a big menu of options guided by your input. Each week Louise set up the studio to share some projects you have requested or she thinks you will enjoy.  Our all afternoon studio sessions will allow time for both learning and production work.

If you have a project you want help with, Louise is happy to help you refine your ideas and manifest your ideas. Parents who want to encourage handmade gift making with their children will go home with lots of ideas.
